Our office has incorporated the use of a soft tissue dental laser that may improve a patient’s orthodontic experience. This laser treatment consists of a light beam, only topical anesthetic, and no shots. It can comfortably correct soft tissue problems in and around the mouth that can adversely affect orthodontic treatment quality, comfort and timeliness. Examples of possible orthodontic laser uses are:
- Sealing and rapid healing of canker sores, cold sores, and other uncomfortable oral lesions that may occur. The treatment is amazingly fast.
- Removal of excess gum tissue around individual teeth.
- Uncovering of teeth delayed in their eruption to allow faster treatment.
- Removal of the frenum (excess fibrous gum tissue) between front teeth or the frenum that may be restricting tongue function.
- Desensitization of teeth which are overly responsive to touch, pressure, or various thermal stimuli.
If a laser application can be of benefit to you during or after orthodontics, we will explain how it can be scheduled. Since laser treatment is not included in your orthodontic treatment fee, we can assist you with finances, including dental insurance claims. You will always have the option to discuss this with your dentist or periodontist, as they may be able to provide a similar service to you. Our patients who experience the benefits of laser therapy are always pleasantly surprised at the remarkable results and their comfort during and after the procedure.
